Description: Given that the British Virgin Islands are some of the most glorious chunks of paradise on earth it would be hard to imagine anything more breathtaking than a resort spread over a privately owned 1800 acre island. Peter Island Resort fulfils the most extravagant of expectations with its low-key perfection. Stunning mountainous terrain, exquisite beaches, secluded coves and an inherent tranquillity.
Hidden between swaying palms and overlooking stupendous views of land and sea, the resort is clustered around the pristine sands of Deadman's beach and the neighbouring bay. Simple open walled architecture houses the lobby and public areas to make the most of the steady tradewind breezes that cool the rooms and villas naturally, should guests prefer not to use air-conditioning.
Rooms: The 32 Ocean View Rooms are situated between the marina and pool, surrounded by colourful, palm fringed gardens. Each is air-conditioned and provides postcard vistas of romantic sunsets, blue waters and sailboats lazily drifting by in Sir Francis Drake's Passage. French doors open to spacious patios and balconies overlooking the gardens and the Caribbean. Guests can relax in the large, overstuffed room chairs and recline in the comfortable deck lounge chair outside. These rooms are steps away from the swimming pool.
Four accommodations are in each structure -- two up and two down. Each main level room features a sun parlor with two lounge chairs flanking French doors leading to a garden patio. Ocean View rooms on the second level have French doors opening to a private balcony with deck chairs.
The Beach Front Junior Suites are nestled in the coconut palms at the far end of one of the most stunning beaches in the Caribbean. Each suite is surrounded with tropical gardens and has a balcony or patio overlooking Deadman's Bay and the British Virgin Islands beyond.
The suites are spacious with large windows and french doors, ceiling fans over the bed and a living area to supplement island breezes, or optional air-conditioning can provide cooling temperatures. The king sized bed resides in a nook across from a large sitting area. A romantic Jacuzzi, wide enough for two, is the highlight of the bath area.
Euro shower and spa combinations include the Jacuzzi tub and double-headed shower fixtures on both walls of the walk through shower. A large window separates the Jacuzzi from the bedroom and provides ocean views. Bathroom interiors surround guests with imported Spanish tile and original stonework laid by one of the island's staff members, Hugh "Benji" Benjamin.
Dining: Exceptional cuisine, an elegant wine room and open-air restaurants await Peter Island guests. Classic yet contemporary dishes fused with Asian and Italian culinary influences are served with the unmistakable warmth and personable Caribbean staff of Peter Island.
Tradewinds Restaurant - Intimate dining. Its large windows provide gorgeous views of Sir Francis Drake Channel and Tortola. Saturday evening features a buffet service, which focuses on flavours of the Caribbean. An array of salads, meats, seafood, vegetables, and fruits await guests, who are encouraged to leave room for a fabulous offering of desserts.
Drake's Channel Lounge - Cocktails and frozen drinks amidst cushioned chaises and soothing Caribbean breezes.
The Tradewinds Wine Room - Over 300 wine varieties, champagne and beverages.
